The Broad Theater welcomes renowned Javanese singer, composer, and faculty member of the Indonesian Institute of the Arts, Peni Candra Rini who will present a live score to the silent film, along with multi-instrumentalist Andy McGraw and local composer/guitarist Christopher Trapani. /Setan Jawa/ follows a poor man from the countryside who falls in love with an aristocratic young woman. The young man makes a deal with the devil so he can marry her, but when she learns of the pact, she sets out to negotiate for her husband's soul. Inspired by both Javanese mythology and German expressionism, Garin Nughoro's film is as mesmerizing as it is haunting: a contemporary vision working in elements of dance, masks, and pageantry from Java. The 2026 Super Sunday Festival is more than an event—it is a living tradition celebrating culture, community, music, and the enduring spirit of New Orleans. The Ringing of Peace is a unified gathering of Mardi Gras Indian tribes from throughout the city will officially open the festival at the Mardi Gras Indian Council Garden Stage. Tribes will celebrate the new Garden space with tambourines, drums, and traditional chants.
