The festival will feature student and professional bands and is expected to draw more than 1,000 alumni, families, and friends for a night of music and community. Proceeds will benefit the music program and student travel fund, helping purchase instruments, expand opportunities for performance and competition, and reduce costs for global learning experiences. More than 120 of the top high school concert band members from across the state will perform this weekend at the first-ever Big Easy Band Fest at Loyola University! The students will perform masterpieces from the band repertoire, led by Associate Professor Alan Mills, Loyola’s Conductor and Coordinator of Bands, and Col. John R. Bourgeois, former conductor of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band, a visiting professor at Loyola and a Loyola alumnus. The Finalé Concert will open with Bourgeois conducting a tribute to the United States Marine Corps, which is celebrating its 250th anniversary on Nov. 10.
