The compelling saga of the Irish who ventured to New Orleans is told as never before at this French Quarter attraction. From the appointment in 1769 of Irish military strategist Alexander O’Reilly as the second governor of Louisiana to the Irish laborers who perished digging the New Basin Canal, the Irish Cultural Museum of New Orleans traces the city’s Irish heritage through archival maps, photographs, newspaper accounts and historic documents. Interactive kiosks and an award-winning documentary bring the history of the Irish in the Crescent City to life. Irish music and cultural programs are scheduled at the museum throughout the year.
