Tom’s part watchmaker, part sculptor, part inventor, part painter – and, what’s more amazing, he’s all these things simultaneously. The soulfulness of each piece and his ability to carve and paint such expression and personality into each of his characters is just amazing; not to mention the Gepetto-like skill with which he constructs the mechanicals that bring his work to life. It’s just amazing stuff.

His 2,000 sq ft Atlanta studio somehow manages to remain cramped with wall-to-wall pieces and parts of every imaginable thing. He pulls parts together from all corners of his shop, which he somehow manages to keep organized in his mind. A sprocket from here, some paint from there, a block of wood from beneath one, or both of his two cats, and, before you know it, one of these wonderful pieces is constructed. And at the end of a long, 16-hour day at work, he goes right next door to his living space, where he, his wife Paula, and Winnie and Lucy (the aforementioned cats), call it a day.

Process
The techniques employed to make this stuff are too numerous to tell. From wood carving to painting to most every type of mechanization (he’s even got pieces that operate on infrared motion detectors!!), he really is a craftsman of the highest caliber.
