The Mission of Symphony Chorus of New Orleans is to provide the highest quality performances of choral music for the citizens of the greater New Orleans area, and to act as the Principal Chorus of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO.) Goals include increasing community awareness and appreciation of choral music, developing more effective outreach programs in the community and in the schools, improving the size, quality and diversity of the chorus and board, and continuing its support of the LPO in presenting a comprehensive program of orchestral choral music in the New Orleans region.

Symphony Chorus donates its performance services to the LPO, receiving neither financial compensation nor complimentary tickets for its performances. The Symphony Chorus also produces concerts on its own and in collaboration with other organizations; offers an annual Choral Workshop to serve the music and education communities; and reaches out to public, private and parochial schools with diverse programs, such as our annual Singers of United Lands residency.

All singers must pass a rigorous, comprehensive audition process. Each singer contributes 140 hours per year rehearsing and performing. A community-based volunteer Board of Directors governs all operations of the Symphony Chorus. Funding comes from supporting members, foundations, corporations, public sources and our annual gala and auction.

Symphony Chorus figures prominently in the musical and cultural life of the region and has become a source of civic pride for its pursuit of artistic excellence and community service. They are often recognized for its quality performances, repeatedly receiving positive reviews. In addition to serving as Principal Chorus for the LPO, Symphony Chorus provides a variety of choral concerts, educational opportunities and enriching experiences to the community.
