About NOWIM

NOWIM was founded by Cindy Mayes, a New Orleans Musician in December 2007. A few months earlier, a package from the Women’s Professional Musicians Club in Chicago arrived at the New Orleans Musician’s Union Hall. The ladies had collected performance clothing to be sent to their sister musicians in New Orleans who were still recovering from the devastating hurricanes in 2005. A friendship followed between Cindy and WPMC’s President, Jennifer silk, who encouraged her to start a similar organization in New Orleans. WPMC member, Ruth Tobias, attended NOWIM’s inaugural meeting in December, 2007, in a show of support for the new organization.

Full members will be able to attend NOWIM meetings, vote, hold office, receive newsletters and all relevant communications, and participate in NOWIM performances. Associate members will be invited to two NOWIM socials/meetings per year, and receive any relevant communications.

NOWIM meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month: “Meet & greet” at 6:00pm, meetings follow from 6:30 – 8:30pm normally at one of the Executive member’s homes or a coffee shop.
