The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) is dedicated to maintaining live symphonic music and a full-scale symphonic orchestra as an integral part of the cultural and educational life of the New Orleans area, the entire State of Louisiana, and the Gulf South region. This is accomplished through a collaborative partnership of its performing musicians, community representatives, and professional staff. The musicians, as the owner-members of the orchestra corporation, retain final oversight of all policies and governance.

Formed in 1991, the LPO is the only musician-owned and operated orchestra in the United States and the largest full-time professional orchestra in the Gulf South. The LPO continues to adhere to the basic orchestra values identified by musicians at the onset: artistic excellence and innovative concert programming; fiscal responsibility and debt-free operations; respect for the value of each individual musician with a leadership role in all decision-making; and commitment to building appreciation and understanding of symphonic music through educational programs for children and adults throughout the community.

The conductors and 67 full-time professional musicians of the LPO are committed to offering educational programs that are age appropriate and meaningful for young children and support classroom learning. Each season, the LPO performs over 125 classics, spotlight, casual classics, park, family, and education concerts in the Greater New Orleans Area. The LPO serves as the resident orchestra for the New Orleans Opera Association, New Orleans Ballet Association, Symphony Chorus of New Orleans, and Delta Festival Ballet. In addition, LPO musicians, most with graduate degrees and many with Ph.D.’s, serve as tenured and adjunct professors for Tulane, Loyola, Southeastern, Dillard, the University of New Orleans, and NOCCA, as well as providing private instruction for adults and children.
