John Gros
John "Papa" Gros is the leader of Papa Grows Funk and one of the premiere keyboardists in the New Orleans funk tradition.

John “Papa” Gros has performed with his group or solo at festivals and music clubs across Southeast as well as Japan and the Czech Republic and has been a featured annual performer at WWOZ’s Piano Night during JazzFest for the last decade. In January 2011, John was awarded OffBeat magazine’s 2011 Best of the Beat Award for Best in Piano / Keyboards. In April 2011, John helped organize Jammin’ for Japan, a Benefit Concert to help the victims of the Japanese earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disasters of 2011. His efforts helped raise $56,000 for the NOLA Japan Quake Fund.

Will Spitz from the Boston Herald says it best,” We’ve seen keyboardist and vocalist, John “Papa” Gros hold his own at enough New Orleans “Piano Night” showdowns (with the likes of Henry Butler, Marcia Ball, and Dr. John sharing the stage) to know that he and his band are the real deal.”

John “Papa” Gros is the sound of New Orleans.
