Sunni Patterson, Tanya Huang, Donney Rose & more - New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Center
Among the performers at the Jazz & Heritage Center on Tuesday will be:

* Sunni Patterson, New Orleans native often described as a visionary poet,
singer and activist. She began her career as a full-time high school
teacher, and much of her life since has been devoted to serving as a
cultural worker and grassroots activist, using art and poetry to encourage
dialogue and healing. She has appeared on HBO’s Def Poetry Jam,
performed at major spoken word venues throughout the country and is a
certified instructor of Tai Chi and Qi Gong.  Her appearance at the 2017
TEDWomen conference led to a widely viewed video of her performance.
* Tanya Huang, a violinist and popular French Quarter street performer. The
character Annie Tee from the HBO series “Treme” is believed to have
been based on her.
* Donney Rose, a poet, teaching artist and community activist from Baton
Rouge. This year he was one of five artists selected from throughout the
country for a 2018-19 Kennedy Center Citizen Artist Fellowship.
* The Harbinger Project, a New Orleans-based duo specializing in jazz/soul
piano infused with beatbox looping.
* Grayhawk Perkins, a well known musician and cultural figure in Louisiana.
Born in New Orleans, he is of Native American Choctaw and Houma Nation
descent. He has been performing for decades, including with such artists
as Dr. John and the late bluesman Coco Robicheaux.
* Antonio Garza, a poet and faculty member at the University of New Orleans
who studied Literature and Linguistics at the University of Texas at
Austin. He has an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of
Florida.
* José Fermin Ceballos, a New Orleans-based musician, songwriter and
composer from the Dominican Republic who plays the accordion, keyboard,
guitar and vocals. He was born in Jamey, San Cristobal, Dominican
Republic, a small town within a remote mountain range.
