An upscale sports bar in the lower end of Decatur Street in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Providing specialty dishes and traditional fare from our talented chefs. We also have a private event space and game room on the 2nd floor which is available to rent for parties and corporate events.
Established in 1897.
Constructed in 1835, the building at 1200 Decatur Street has long been one of the more impressive structures in the French Quarter. Originally a warehouse for the French Market, later a munitions dump during the Civil War, and home to countless bars and businesses over the years.
In November 1899, Mr. Cuccia penned a letter to the Honorable Walter C. Flower, Mayor of the City of New Orleans, stating that he was the proprietor of the “American Saloon” at 1200 Decatur Street and
that “having in my establishment a Edison Phonograph for which I have received permission from the proper authorities of this City to play when I see fit and having the majority of the neighbors, which signatures are here below affixed, to operate said phonograph at all times. Beg your Honor permission to continue same, not withstanding that I understand a petition will be probably presented to you complaining that I am a nuisance.”
Once again, the “American Saloon” occupies the space at 1200 Decatur Street.
