Krewe of Cleopatra
Krewe of Cleopatra
Though it seems like yesterday...
Over 40 years ago, a New Orleans family had a dream of combining
their passion for Mardi Gras and their love for the city of New Orleans
to create an all women’s carnival krewe. After careful consideration and
planning, the Krewe of Cleopatra was born. The name was chosen after
the last pharaoh of Egypt, Cleopatra, which represents beauty, strength
and femininity. The captain continues to rule over this all women’s
organization which opens the New Orleans carnival season.

Established in 1972, the Krewe now parades on the traditional St. Charles Avenue route in New Orleans, La., 11 days before Mardi Gras day.
