New Orleans Gay Men’s Youth Chorus seeks to positively influence diverse communities, providing a voice to enrich and enlighten through artistic excellence and serving through community outreach. Through performances and outreach with other arts and community organizations, New Orleans Gay Men’s Youth Chorus reaches and enriches diverse communities. NOGMC breaks through barriers of prejudice and stereotypes by encouraging leadership, individual expression and pride in our community.

The small group of men that would become the New Orleans Gay Men's Chorus was
founded by Jerry Zachary and first rehearsed on June 16, 1982, with the first performance in
December 1982. New Orleans Gay Men’s Youth Chorus has placed great emphasis on reaching out to a broader community to bring our audiences a part of the musical heritage of New Orleans. As a charter member of the Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses (GALA Choruses), New Orleans Gay Men’s Youth Chorus has performed to critical acclaim at all eight international GALA Festivals in New York, Minneapolis, Seattle, Denver, Tampa, San Jose, Montreal and Miami.

The quadrennial festivals are among the largest gay and lesbian cultural arts gatherings, bringing together over 6,000 singers and 20,000 audience members. New Orleans Gay Men’s Youth Chorus has premiered new works written for the Chorus at all eight GALA festivals and continues their long history of commissioning new works for their concerts.
