Mickey Markey Park

700 Piety St  New Orleans, 70117

New Orleans’ eclectic Bywater neighborhood is sandwiched between Faubourg Marigny and the Industrial Canal. This densely populated historic Ninth Ward neighborhood has Creole cottages, shotgun houses, and bungalows, as well as commercial and industrial structures used by artists and small businesses but very little park space. As one of the neighborhood’s only green spaces, Mickey Markey Park is a valued place and was in much need of renovation.

The Trust for Public Land worked in partnership with the New Orleans Recreation Department Commission and the Bywater Neighborhood Association to renovate this neighborhood park. Substantial improvements including a new playground made the park a community gathering spot for all residents to enjoy. (From Trust For Public Land Website)
