Laszlo Fassang Organ Concert in St. Louis Cathedral

Laszlo Fassang, one of major young organists in the world will appear in a recital on the Holtkamp Organ, free and open to the public, on Sunday April 17 at 7 p.m. at St. Louis Cathedral on historic Jackson Square in New Orleans' French Quarter.
In September 2004 the native of Budapest was awarded the Grand Prix de Chartres and the audience prize at the 2004 Chartres International Organ Competition. The prestigious award follows other distinctions during the past two years. Mr. Fassang won the Improvisation Gold Medal at the 2002 Calgary International Organ Competition (August, 2002). At the Fourth International City of Paris Organ Competition (November, 2002), he won the second prize in Improvisation and the Durufle prize.
As winner of the Chartres International Organ Festival, he will play 50 recitals throughout the world. As winner of the competition, he joins the elite ranks of organists who hold the most prestigious organ posts in Paris, including Notre Dame Cathedral, Saint Sulpice, La Trinite, Sacre Coeur, and La Clotilde, and elsewhere throughout Europe.
Trained at the Paris Conservatory, his teachers included Olivier Latry and Michel Bouvard for organ. His studies in improvisation were with Philippe Lefevbre and Thierry Escaich.
During 2000, he was the Resident Organist at the Sapporo Concert Hall in Japan. Recent concert appearances have been in France, Germany, Holland, Switzerland, Canada and the USA. He currently lives in Hungary and Spain, where he teaches improvisation at the music conservatory in San Sebastian.
At St. Louis Cathedral he will play works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Durufle, Liszt, and Saint-Saens.
